Kaohsiung Science Park

In May 2000, the Executive Yuan agreed to the development of STSP Lujhu Science Park in the Lujhu area of Kaohsiung City (renamed as Kaohsiung Science Park (KSP) in July 2004), and formal approval was granted in April, 2001.
Located at the border of Lujhu, Gangshan, and Yongan Districts, Kaohsiung Science Park (KSP) occupies an area of about 567 hectares and is home to major industries including optoelectronics, medical devices, and aerospace. Since 2017, to continuously enhance innovative research and the development of energy in the medical device industry as well as to increase added value and maintain the high value of its products, the “Southern Taiwan Smart Biomedical Industrial Cluster Promotion Program” was launched. By introducing ICT technology, its aim was to develop the smart health care service industry and continuously attract the presence of start-ups along with existing medical device and information software companies. Additionally, with the promotion of the “STSP Aerospace Key System Technology Upgrading and Advancement Program,” resources of government, academia, and research institutions have collaborated to assist with the upgrading of Tier N-1 aerospace technology and accreditation to invite more enterprises to join the integrated supply chain, and to allow enterprises to win big international orders. Moreover, since 2017, the “STSP Smart Manufacturing Industrial Cluster Promotion Program” has been in operation. Through the establishment of a counselling platform and grant provision, cooperation among the industry, academia, and research and medical institutions in technology innovation have been fostered to boost the smart manufacturing energy of park enterprises in KSP. Among them, the field-based project has assisted the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in building Taiwan’s first 3D printing medical device manufacturing field in KSP. Medical device enterprises have been assisted to engage in design, test production, and subcontracting in this specialist field. Internationally certified 3D printing medical devices are, therefore, developed to take more international market shares of 3D printing medical devices.
