In May 2000, the Executive Yuan agreed to the development of STSP Lujhu Science Park in the Lujhu area of Kaohsiung City (renamed as Kaohsiung Science Park (KSP) in July 2004), and formal approval was granted in April, 2001.
Kaohsiung Science Park is located at the border of Lujhu, Gangshan, and Yongan Districts and spans over 567 hectares, home of major industries including the IC, the 5G Advanced Communications, the Optoelectronics, and the Medical Device. Along with the presence of advanced process of the IC industry in the STSP, industrial clusters of IC materials and parts and components are formed in the KSP. In recent years, big players including Merck KGaA, Entegris, VisEra, and Winbond have presented in the KSP. With the arrival of 5G communication era, WIN Semiconductors, GARUDA, ThinFlex, and Corndi & Wincap were introduced to the KSP. In the future, the STSPA will actively invite investment of 5G application companies to transform and innovate the KSP. Driven by next-generation panel of InnoLux, domestic and international big part and component makers such as AUO, Taiwan Nissan, Merck KGaA, Nitto, TORAY, and ZACROS were attract to present themselves in the STSP and form a complete IC industrial cluster. Since 2017, in order to continuously enhance innovative R&D energy and improve high added value of medical device industry, the STSP has been promoting the “Southern Smart Biomedical Industrial Cluster Project” as well as the “Southern Precision Health Industrial Cluster Project” by introducing ICT technology, developing the precision health industry, and continuously attracting presence of startups and existing medical device and information software companies in the STSP.
